Date hair singeing line: how are fine surface hairs removed from dates?

A date hair singeing line removes the fine hairs on the fruit surface with a controlled flame. We explain the three stations, the shaker and the flue extraction.

Dates carry fine hairs on their surface, and a plant that wants a clean-looking fruit has to deal with them before the product moves on. The Hair Singeing Line is the sub-line of our date processing line built for this job: it removes the fine hairs with a flame while the product travels on a shaker, then passes it by conveyor to the next station.

01

What are the stations of the line?

The line has three stations, and each one answers a different question about how the fruit should reach the flame.

  • 01Feeding conveyor: carries the product to the line entry in a steady flow
  • 02Transfer shaker: spreads the product into a single layer by vibration and feeds it evenly to the singeing unit
  • 03Hair singeing unit: the fine hairs on the surface are removed with a controlled flame, and a flue extraction carries the smoke outside

Only the feeding conveyor is linked to a machine page today. The Feeding Conveyor has a chassis and trough of AISI 304 stainless steel and a PVC slat belt; the shaker and the singeing unit are described by function.

02

Why does the product need to be spread in a single layer?

A flame works on what it can reach. If fruit arrives stacked or in clumps, the pieces on top are exposed and the ones underneath are shielded, so the result is uneven. The transfer shaker solves this by vibrating the product into one layer before it enters the singeing unit, which is why the evenness of the feed matters as much as the burner itself.

The feeding conveyor supports the same goal one step earlier. A steady flow at the line entry means the shaker does not have to absorb surges, and the singeing unit sees a consistent stream. Belt speed on this conveyor is adjustable according to the product.

03

What does the flue extraction do?

Burning hair produces smoke. The flue extraction on the singeing unit carries that smoke outside the production area instead of letting it drift over the fruit or the operators. When the line is quoted, the chimney route, the fire protection arrangement and the compliance of the equipment with CE conformity requirements are part of the project, not an afterthought.

04

How are the flame settings decided?

There is no universal flame setting. How long the fruit stays in the singeing unit and how strongly the flame acts depend on the date variety, its surface condition and the target product form. We therefore do not publish temperatures or dwell times; these are defined with the customer during the project, and the exact values are settled in the quotation.

TABLE 01
Question for the projectWhat it decides
Which date variety is processed?Surface condition and how much singeing the fruit needs
How does the fruit arrive?Whether a feeding conveyor alone is enough to give a steady flow
What is the target product form?Where singeing sits in the sequence of the date line
Where can the chimney go?Route of the flue extraction and the layout of the hall
What comes after singeing? How the conveyor hands the product to the next station

05

Where does singeing sit in a date plant?

Our date processing line is organised into sub-lines: pitting, cutting and washing, with singeing added as its own sub-line. Each sub-line can be projected separately or as an integrated flow, depending on the date variety and the target product form. The order of singeing relative to washing or pitting is therefore a project decision, not a fixed rule.

Next step: tell us which date variety you process and how the fruit reaches the line. Send these details through the quotation page and the singeing line will be laid out around your plant, with the capacity and flame parameters confirmed in the offer.

Let's build the same work at your facility

Send the fruit you process and your target capacity; we will come back with a quote covering the station list, lead time and price. We supply a single machine, or build the complete line from washing to packaging.
